Update on 26 October at 12.30pm

Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from the north side of Garden Island.

The DBCA officers attended earlier this morning and completed the removal by 11.00am.

Water users are advised to remain cautious in this area, due to the potential residues that may continue to attract sharks.

Alert level:
A shark ADVICE has been issued, due to a report of a shark interaction with a surfer at Guillotines Surf Break approximately three kilometres north of Cowaramup Bay in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

Update on 17 October at 5.25pm

The Shire of Waroona has now removed the carcass of a Humpback whale from Preston Beach.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures, warnings and any other relevant information advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Update on 15 October at 11am

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has identified and resolved a temporary outage to the Shark Monitoring Network through last night. 

This outage was as a result of an internal internet communication issue.

All aspects of WA's shark notification system are now fully operational.

A shark WARNING has been issued for Centaur Reef, two miles north west of Trigg Island, after an interaction with a shark was reported at 12.00pm on Saturday 13 October.

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale stranding incident 15 kilometres northwest of Monkey Mia, in the Francois Peron National Park.

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported 500 metres offshore at Shothole Creek Beach, Exmouth.

Alert level: 
A shark WARNING has been issued for Cockburn Sound after the report of an interaction with a shark near Carnac Island.

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported on a reef 100 metres offshore, 3kms north of Sandy Cape, south of Green Head.
