Shark WARNING for Injidup Beach to Smiths Beach near Yallingup

Alert level:
A shark WARNING has been issued for the Injidup Beach to Smiths Beach area, in the City of Busselton, after an interaction with a shark at Indicator Rock, north of Canal Rocks, on the afternoon of Sunday 19 August. A member of the public has reported an interaction with a shark in this area while operating a kayak. No injuries occurred during this interaction. The report was received today (22 August).

Shark ADVICE for Wylie Bay Beach, near Esperance

Parks and Wildlife Service Officers from the  Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have resolved the whale stranding incident at Wylie Bay Beach, with a humpback whale carcass removed from the area.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Shark ADVICE for Mindarie in the City of Wanneroo

Update on 8 August at 2.35pm

Please note that yesterday's alert incorrectly said DBCA staff removed the whale carcass. 

Removal of the carcass was actually carried out by the City of Wanneroo officers.

The carcass was removed from Claytons Surf Spot, not Mindarie Beach as first reported.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from the whale carcass may still attract sharks to the Mindarie area.

Shark ADVICE for outage of Smiths Beach SMN receiver

The satellite-linked receiver at Smiths Beach, south of Yallingup, has been replaced following recent storm damage and is now online.

As a result all components of the Western Australian Shark Monitoring Network are now fully operational.
