A shark WARNING has been issued for Centaur Reef, two miles north west of Trigg Island, after an interaction with a shark was reported at 12.00pm on Saturday 13 October.

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported on a reef 100 metres offshore, 3kms north of Sandy Cape, south of Green Head.

Shark ADVICE for The Cut beach, near Bunbury

Update on 24 September at 1.35pm

The humpback whale carcass that came ashore on The Cut beach, north of Bunbury, has been removed. This has been confirmed today by Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

Please note that additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Update on 17 September at 4.55pm

As an update to yesterday's report, a whale carcass has now been confirmed by Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. It was located at 2:00pm. 

It is possible the decomposing carcass will act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming close in to shore along this stretch of coast.

Water users should adhere to beach closures advised by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and people should exercise additional caution in the area.

Check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to your local beach.

Shark ADVICE for Preston Beach, south of Mandurah

Update on 16 September at 11am

An inspection of Preston Beach this morning by Waroona Rangers has not been able to locate the dolphin carcass that was reported to have come ashore yesterday.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as the carcass may have been washed back into the ocean and may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.
