Update 1.30pm 13 May 2019

Officers from the City of Albany with assistance from officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale  carcass from Cheynes Beach (Waychinicup).

Beach users should continue to take caution in the area where the whale carcass was situated as any residue from the carcass may continue to act as a shark attractant.

Bring your Sea Sense to the beach. Stay informed by checking for shark activity before you go to the beach.

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.

Update on 2 May 2019 at 1pm

The partial system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network, relating to the Smiths Beach satellite-linked receiver has now been resolved. The VR4 monitoring buoy has been reconnected to its mooring. The Shark Monitoring Network is fully operational.

Alert level:
A shark WARNING has been issued for Injidup Beach, adjacent to Injidup Car Park near the town of Yallingup, after an interaction with a shark and a surfer was reported at 6.00pm today.

Alert level:
A shark WARNING has been issued for Gantheaume Point near Broome after an interaction with a three metre shark, approximately 300m south of the mooring area, was reported by a kayak fisherman.

The partial system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network, relating to the Ellen Cove satellite-linked receiver has now been resolved. This concluded maintenance means the Shark Monitoring Network is now fully operational again.

Update on 10 February at 11.40am

When the 5 February update was issued, there was an error because it overlooked the fact that the Shark Monitoring Network satellite-linked receiver at Ellen Cove was off-line due a technical fault, which had caused an unrelated outage on 4 February. Please note the Ellen Cove receiver was returned to service this morning and the Shark Monitoring Network is now fully operational again.
