Shark ADVICE for Hamelin Bay in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River

Parks and Wildlife Service officers have reopened Hamelin Bay Beach following the removal of the whale carcass yesterday morning.

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD in the Hamelin Bay area, as any residue from where the whale carcass was present may still attract sharks to the area.

The technical fault impacting shark activity information from being automatically published on Surf Life Saving WA’s (SLSWA) Twitter feed has been restored.

Tagged shark detections and reported shark sightings are now being automatically published on @SLSWA.

Shark ADVICE for Hunters Access near Exmouth

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Hunters Access near BEN Sign EX2082, North West Cape.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark ADVICE for Middleton Beach near the City of Albany

Officers from the City of Albany have now removed the whale carcass from Middleton Beach. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark INCIDENT at Sandland Island near Jurien Bay

Update on 28 February 2024 at 11:50am

Fisheries officers from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), have completed an on-water patrol near Sandland Island and the surrounding area today, with no further shark sightings reported.

DBCA and the Shire of Dandaragan have reopened the beaches following the shark incident on Monday 26 February 2024.

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Jurien Bay area.
