Parks and Wildlife Service Officers from the  Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have resolved the whale stranding incident at Wylie Bay Beach, with a humpback whale carcass removed from the area.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Alert level:
A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported at Tagon Beach, Cape Arid east of Esperance.

Update on 16 August at 10.25am

The Shire of Capel has removed the whale carcass from Peppermint Grove Beach, near Capel.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Alert level:
A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported at Sandy Cape Beach in the Jurien Bay Marine Park, between Jurien and Greenhead town sites.

Update on 8 August at 2.35pm

Please note that yesterday's alert incorrectly said DBCA staff removed the whale carcass. 

Removal of the carcass was actually carried out by the City of Wanneroo officers.

The carcass was removed from Claytons Surf Spot, not Mindarie Beach as first reported.

Update on 6 August at 9.35am

The City of Mandurah has removed the whale carcass from Florida Beach in Mandurah.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Update on 16 August at 10.30am

The satellite-linked receiver at Smiths Beach, south of Yallingup, has been replaced following recent storm damage and is now online.

As a result all components of the Western Australian Shark Monitoring Network are now fully operational.

The Shire of Irwin has removed the whale carcass from Knobby Head, north of Leeman.
