Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have inspected the whale which has since deceased. The carcass will remain in place at Whalebone Point, east of Bremer Bay. 

Shark warning signs are in place in the area. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as the slowly decomposing whale carcass may attract sharks to the area.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is currently investigating a reported shark bite incident at Fourteen Mile Camp Beach, near Coral Bay in the Shire of Carnarvon.

Situation:

• A male was spearfishing when he was bitten by an unknown species of shark at Fourteen Mile Camp Beach which was reported at 11:18 am on 8 July 2024.

Alert level:

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported at Point Cloates, near Coral Bay in the Shire of Exmouth.

The system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network has now been resolved and receivers are back online.

The shark monitoring receivers located at 3.5 km off Trigg, Swanbourne and Garden Island remain offline and require further onsite maintenance to restore service to these receivers.

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Rossiter Bay. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Officers from the City of Greater Geraldton have now removed the whale carcass from Greenough River Mouth Beach. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (tower) at Cove Surf Break, Cottesloe.
