Shark ADVICE for Garden Island, near Herring Bay

Update on 26 October at 12.30pm

Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from the north side of Garden Island.

The DBCA officers attended earlier this morning and completed the removal by 11.00am.

Water users are advised to remain cautious in this area, due to the potential residues that may continue to attract sharks.

Shark ADVICE for Preston Beach in the Shire of Waroona

Update on 17 October at 5.25pm

The Shire of Waroona has now removed the carcass of a Humpback whale from Preston Beach.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Water users should adhere to beach closures, warnings and any other relevant information advised by local government rangers and check the SharkSmart Activity Map or the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed before heading to their local beaches.

Shark ADVICE for the Shark Monitoring Network

Update on 15 October at 11am

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has identified and resolved a temporary outage to the Shark Monitoring Network through last night. 

This outage was as a result of an internal internet communication issue.

All aspects of WA's shark notification system are now fully operational.
