​Following the weekend’s wild weather, which is continuing today, the oceans along our coastline are likely to wash up some intriguing items and we hope it’s not any of the technology used to record or monitor tagged shark activity in Western Australian waters.

Alert level:

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a whale carcass being reported at White Point Beach in the Shire of Augusta 

Update on 7 May at 3:00pm

Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conversation and Attractions have inspected the area and the whale carcass is no longer in place at Eagles Nest Beach, within the Shire of Denmark.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Services have been restored to the Cowaramup Bay Shark Monitoring Network receiver.

The network is now fully operational.

Update on 28 April at 4:50pm

Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Belvidere Beach near Australind.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development will return to routine coastal patrols in the Lighthouse Bay area today.

Update on 20 April at 14:15pm 

Technicians have now completed repairs to the shark warning system at Ellensbrook, south of Gracetown.

All shark warning systems in the Gracetown area are now fully operational.
