Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (tower) at South Point, Gracetown.

Update on 8 June 2026 at 6:00 pm

DPIRD (Fisheries) officers have inspected the area where the whale carcass was located at Flat Rock Beach in South Greenough, in the City of Greater Geraldton and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may attract sharks to the area.

Update on 6 July at 4:00 pm

Correction to the location of the whale carcass previously reported at Tooregullup Beach in the Shire of Jerramungup. 

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions report the whale carcass is located at Gardner Beach, east of Windy Harbour, not Tooregullup Beach.

Rottnest Island Rangers have reopened The Basin.

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD in The Basin, Longreach Bay Beach and Pinky Beach area, as any residue from the whale carcass may attract sharks to the area.

Officers from the Town of Cottesloe have now removed the whale carcass from Grant Street Beach, in the Town of Cottesloe.

The beach has been reopened by the Town of Cottesloe.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may attract sharks to the area.
