Shark ADVICE for the Shark Warning System at Mullaloo, in the City of Joondalup

Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (towers) at Mullaloo (south) and Mullaloo (north).

Switch on your Sea Sense and stay informed of shark activity information by checking the SharkSmart website, download the SharkSmart WA app or follow @SLSWA on X (formerly Twitter). 

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.

Alert issued on 1 October 2025

Alert level:

A shark ADVICE has been issued for Mullaloo water users, due to a technical fault affecting the land-based shark warning systems (towers) at Mullaloo (south) and Mullaloo (north).

Situation:

  • The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) advise that the land-based shark warning system (towers) located at Mullaloo (south) and Mullaloo (north) are experiencing a technical fault and are currently offline. 
  • Restoration of the towers will require a maintenance crew to conduct onsite repairs work, which will be completed as soon as possible.
  • The tower located at Ocean Reef remains operational.  

What to do:

  • Take additional caution in the Mullaloo area.
  • Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA).
  • Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or follow @SLSWA on X (formerly Twitter).
  • If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and @SLSWA on X. 

What authorities are doing: 

DPIRD is working with City of Joondalup to restore the system to full operational status as soon as possible.
