Shark ADVICE for Goode Beach near Albany

Update on 7 February at 11:40am

Rangers from the City of Albany have inspected the whale carcass at Goode Beach, near Albany. Carcass remnants, including blubber remain in place on the beach. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development as the slowly decomposing whale carcass may attract sharks to the area.

The system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network, resumed operations at 3:00am today. The Shark Monitoring Network is now operational, however the Busselton and 1.5km Scarborough satellite-linked receivers remain off-line.

Shark ADVICE for Dunsborough Boat Ramp, Dunsborough.

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Dunsborough Boat Ramp. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark WARNING for Whitford Beach near Hillarys Boat Harbour

Update on 7 January at 2:35pm

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) continue to monitor the level of shark sightings. 

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Whitford Beach and Pinnaroo Point area due to continued reports of shark sightings close to shore. 

Beach users should adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers or Surf Life Saving WA. 

It is possible that the frequency and duration of the recent reported sightings may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in this area. It is not uncommon for sharks to be off the WA coast at this time of the year.
