Update on 12 December at 10:35 am

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have inspected the area where the whale carcass was reported at Two Peoples Bay, east of Albany and have advised that it is no longer in place.

DPIRD officers also inspected nearby Nanarup Beach, where the carcass was first reported. 

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (tower) at Cove Surf Break, Cottesloe.

Update on 4 December at 07:00 am

Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (tower) at West Beach, Esperance.

Update on 21 November at 12:10 pm

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have inspected the area where the whale carcass was located at Boullanger Island and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the DPIRD, as residue from where the carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on Tuesday 14 November at 1:30 pm

Scheduled maintenance of the Shark Monitoring Network has been completed. 

The Sorrento shark monitoring receiver remains offline.

Tagged shark detection information has been reviewed during the time of the outage and no detections occurred during this period.

Alert level: 

A shark WARNING has been issued for Peak Island near Exmouth after a reported shark incident.

• New restrictions to prohibit shark fishing gear within 800m of shore from south of Mandurah to Two Rocks, including all waters of the Swan Canning Estuary
• Cook Government continuing to work with local councils on shark hazard mitigation strategies

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Back Beach, Bunbury in the City of Bunbury after an increased number of reported tagged shark detections. 

Update on 17 October at 4:05pm

Officers from the Shire of Waroona have now removed the whale carcass from Preston Beach. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.
