Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Dunsborough Boat Ramp. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on 7 January at 2:35pm

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) continue to monitor the level of shark sightings. 

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Whitford Beach and Pinnaroo Point area due to continued reports of shark sightings close to shore. 

Beach users should adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers or Surf Life Saving WA. 

It is possible that the frequency and duration of the recent reported sightings may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in this area. It is not uncommon for sharks to be off the WA coast at this time of the year.

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for North Lancelin Beach in Lancelin after a reported shark interaction.  

Update on 29 December at 10.30am

The partial system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network, relating to the Warnbro Sound satellite-linked receiver has now been resolved. The Shark Monitoring Network is now operational , however the Busselton and 1.5km Scarborough satellite- linked receivers remain off-line.

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to a confirmed shark interaction at Lucky Bay Point, Cape Le Grand National Park.

• McGowan Government has allocated $400,000 for a beach enclosure in Esperance
• Shire of Esperance to manage and operate the enclosure
• Esperance beach enclosure an important addition to the McGowan Government's comprehensive $17 million shark mitigation strategy

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Perth metropolitan waters after an increased number of tagged shark detections.

• Shark Warning towers use lights, sirens and audio alerts to notify shark activity
• 10 beachside shark warning towers have been fully automated to link with receivers
• McGowan Government is committed to making WA beaches as safe as possible
