Shark WARNING for Wobiri Beach near Exmouth

Update on 12 March at 4:55 pm:

Following Tuesday’s reported shark interaction, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have reopened Wobiri and Jansz Beach, in the Shire of Exmouth.

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Wobiri and Jansz Beach area.

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.

Alert issued on 11 March 2026

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Wobiri Beach in the Shire of Exmouth after a delayed report of a shark interaction. 

Situation:

  • The shark interaction was reported by a member of the public at approximately 8:00 pm on Tuesday 10 March 2026.
  • A reported 3 m shark bit a foil board at approximately 5:00 pm on Tuesday 10 March 2026. The foil boarder sustained no injuries.

What to do:

  • Take additional caution in the Wobiri Beach area.
  • Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA).
  • Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or follow @SLSWA on X (formerly Twitter).
  • If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and @SLSWA on X. 

What authorities are doing: 

Officers from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), along with staff from other agencies will continue to monitor the situation.
