Shark tagging supports public safety through monitoring

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD) successful shark tagging program has tagged 16 white sharks so far this year along the Western Australian coastline.

Shark ADVICE for Floodgates Surfing Spot near Denmark

Update on 27 September at 2:30 pm

Officers from the City of Albany have now removed the whale carcass from Mutton Bird Beach and the beach has been reopened.

Shark warning signs are in place in the area.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from the whale carcass may still attract sharks to the area.

End to shark fishing from two popular regional jetties

Media Release

Restrictions to stop shark fishing from two major regional jetties which are popular for diving and swimming will come into effect from 1 October.

The State Government will extend the wire trace fishing gear ban, currently in place for the Perth metropolitan area, to include the Esperance Jetty and Busselton Jetty and foreshore area.
