Shark ADVICE for Naval Memorial Park near Rockingham

Update on 14 December at 3:40pm

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have completed the incident response with regards to the whale stranding incident near Rockingham. The whale carcass has now been removed from the Jervoise Bay Boat Harbour near Henderson.  

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends additional caution in the waters near Henderson and the broader Cockburn Sound area, as any whale carcass residue may attract sharks.

Shark ADVICE for Two Peoples Bay Beach east of Albany

Current Alerts and Warnings

Update on 12 December at 10:35 am

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have inspected the area where the whale carcass was reported at Two Peoples Bay, east of Albany and have advised that it is no longer in place.

DPIRD officers also inspected nearby Nanarup Beach, where the carcass was first reported. 

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have inspected the area where the whale carcass was located at Boullanger Island and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the DPIRD, as residue from where the carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Scheduled maintenance of the Shark Monitoring Network has been completed. 

The Sorrento shark monitoring receiver remains offline.

Tagged shark detection information has been reviewed during the time of the outage and no detections occurred during this period.
