Officers from the Shire of Waroona have inspected the area where the partial whale carcass was located at Preston Beach, south of Mandurah and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

The Bickley shark monitoring receiver has been decommissioned following a technical fault and site assessment. 

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is assessing alternative locations for this receiver.

Update on 26 March 2026

The shark monitoring receiver 3.5 km off Trigg has been decommissioned following a technical fault and site assessment. 

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development determined that the receiver would provide greater safety outcomes at an inshore location, and resources will support the installation of a receiver at Margaret River Main Break. 

The shark monitoring receiver located at 2.5 km off Trigg remains in place.

Services have been restored to the land-based Shark Warning System (tower) at Ocean Reef.

Following yesterday’s reported shark incident, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have reopened the beach at Kurrajong Camp, in the Shire of Exmouth.

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Kurrajong Camp area.

Update on 12 March at 4:55 pm:

Following Tuesday’s reported shark interaction, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have reopened Wobiri and Jansz Beach, in the Shire of Exmouth.

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Wobiri and Jansz Beach area.

Update on 10 March at 3:00 pm

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from Winderabandi Point and Lefroy Bay.

DBCA have reopened both beaches at Winderabandi Point and Lefroy Bay.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.
