The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) continues to work with local authorities to support the responses.

DPIRD officers will be conducting land-based patrols at Port Smith Beach and the surrounding area.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is currently investigating a reported shark bite incident at Port Smith Beach in the Shire of Broome.

Update on 8 May at 10:20 am:

Officers from the Shire of Esperance have reopened beaches in the Fourth Beach area, following a reported shark interaction on 7 May.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommend additional caution in the Fourth Beach area.

Update on 6 May at 10:48am

The system outage for the Bunker Bay Shark Monitoring Network has now been resolved and receiver is back online.  The network is now fully operational.

Update on 4 May at 5:17pm

Officers from the Shire of Denmark have advised that the whale carcass reported at Ocean Beach Surfing Spot is no longer in place.

The beach has been reopened by the Shire of Denmark.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Mangles Bay in Rockingham in the City of Rockingham after a reported shark interaction.

Update on 27 April at 10:25 am

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and Rangers from the City of Busselton have now removed the whale carcass from Quindalup Boat Ramp. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.
