Shark WARNING for Fourth Groyne Surf Break near Mandurah

Update on 7 February at 1:25pm

Rangers from the City of Mandurah have reopened the beach, following the reported shark interaction at Fourth Groyne Surf Break, Silver Sands. 

DPIRD Fisheries officers have concluded their sea-based patrols in the area and have resumed routine operational patrols.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Silver Sands Beach area.

Shark INCIDENT for Swan River near North Fremantle

Update on 6 February at 3:40pm

Rangers from the City of Fremantle have reopened the beach, following the reported serious shark bite incident in the Swan River near the Fremantle Bridge, North Fremantle.

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have resumed routine operational patrols within the Fremantle area.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Swan River, North Fremantle and the surrounding area.

Shark ADVICE for Nickol Bay in the City of Karratha

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) advise that the whale carcass reported at Nickol Bay, in the City of Karratha is no longer in place. 

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD, as residue from where the whale carcass was located may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark ADVICE for the WA Shark Monitoring Network – Various receivers and locations

The system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network has now been resolved and all receivers are back on line. The Shark Notification System is fully operational again.

Tagged detection information has been reviewed during the time of the outage and no detections occurred during this period.

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have inspected the area where the whale carcass was located at Sharp Point, Albany and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.
